Safi – Celebrating its 75th anniversary, Max Mara hosted an intimate dinner in Shanghai, bringing together a select group of guests including Turkish actress Tuba Büyüküstün and Emirati-Yemeni singer Balqees.
The Italian house spent decades selling a particular idea of luxury, the kind that comes in camel and cashmere, but never asks to be noticed.
The guests followed the tone of the evening, wearing pieces that emphasized quality fabrics over anything overly flashy.
Tuba Büyüküstün wore a black short dress built around a cape and cut to a soft keyhole at the neck. A thin gold chain was the only flourish, and it was enough.
Balqees chose a deep burgundy satin gown, strapless and draped so it moved like liquid.
She warmed it with gold, sandals on her feet and a stack of bracelets at her wrist.
The two other guests played it quieter still. Maud Abatao leaned into plain tailoring, a brown double-breasted jacket over a matching mini.
Hikari, on the other hand, took the only real risk of the night, a cropped black top above a vast, feathered skirt that swallowed the floor.
The four looks ran from plain to dramatic, but underneath they agreed: keep the shapes clean and skip the fuss. None of the women tried too hard, and at a house like Max Mara, that was the whole point.
