Rabat – Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are reportedly preparing to tie the knot, with Portuguese media claiming the couple will celebrate their long-awaited wedding in Madeira, the football star’s hometown, in the coming days.

The main cathedral in Funchal, the capital of Madeira, has been reserved for the wedding ceremony on Saturday, with proceedings expected to begin at 3 p.m. in keeping with local traditions.

The couple has also reportedly booked the luxury Savoy Palace hotel for their wedding reception.

Guests staying at the property have allegedly been informed that two floors and several bar areas will be closed on Friday and Saturday to accommodate the private celebration.

The choice of Madeira is said to carry special meaning for Ronaldo, who was born and raised in Funchal before launching the football career that made him one of the sport’s biggest global stars.

He currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.

Ronaldo and Rodríguez began dating in 2016 and announced their engagement in August last year.

Speculation surrounding their wedding intensified last week after the pair were photographed boarding a luxury yacht in Mallorca while both wearing diamond rings.

In a previous interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, Ronaldo shared that he had hoped to celebrate his wedding after the World Cup, saying he dreamed of arriving at the ceremony with the tournament trophy in hand.

That plan never materialized after Portugal was eliminated in the semifinals by Spain, who went on to win the competition.

During the same interview, Ronaldo also described Rodríguez as the woman who made him want to settle down and build a life together, making their reported wedding one of the most anticipated celebrity events among fans worldwide.v
