Rabat – In an interview alongside his business partner Jimmy Lovine, the hiphop icon Dr. Dre has stated to The New York Times that he sees AI as a creativity tool.
The legendary hiphop producer and performer has said that he doesn’t feel threatened by AI. On the contrary, musicians who are threatened by AI are those who have trouble creating.
Dr. Dre is keen on fully acknowledging the role of AI in the music industry, and he’s totally fine with embracing it in the creative process.
“I’m embracing it. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with this, what it would do with what we can do” he told The New York Times.
“I had a discussion with a few people, and they were against AI.” Dre said.
“I’m like, ‘OK, you sound like the person that would have been against the drum machine when it came out.’ Or synthesizers, right? It’s a new tool for creativity. Some people are afraid of learning new things.”
Dr. Dre is a music and tech mogul. His business partner Jimmy Lovine and he co-founded Beats Electronics and Beats Music before it was acquired by Apple for a deal of $3 billion-plus (MAD 30 billion) in 2014.
Dr. Dre has admitted to using AI in production. “Yes, I’m using it. Again, as a tool to see what it would do with what I just did.” As his business partner suggested many other producers do, such as Timberland.
“They’re using it, they just don’t want to admit it.” Dr. Dre said.
Dr. Dre’s statement came as the conversation about the use of AI in the music industry continues to evolve; with it remaining a controversial subject of many ongoing legal and rights disputes.
