Rabat — Moroccan Choreographer Yassmine Benchrifa is bringing her solo “Incendia” to Bobigny’s Maison de la Culture de Seine-Saint-Denis (MC93) on October 24-25, as part of the 2026 Festival d’Automne.
The solo is featured in “Mosaïque – Ce qui traverse les corps,” a program curated by Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen that brings together artists from Morocco, Burundi, and Iran.
From Hip-Hop to contemporary dance
Benchrifa’s artistic journey began with hip-hop, which she discovered at the age of 12. Drawn to its expressiveness and raw energy, she later discovered contemporary dance through choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou in 2017.
She then went on to join Nafass, Morocco’s first contemporary dance school, where she developed her practice.
Her work combines elements of hip-hop and contemporary dance while examining the relationship between the body, memory, and the individual.
In 2024, Benchrifa won first prize at the Taklif contemporary dance competition in Marrakech, before creating “Incendia” in 2025.
A solo inspired by transformation
Inspired by her own journey, “Incendia” looks at the transitions that mark different stages of life.
Benchrifa explores the space between past and future while remaining grounded in the present, comparing these shifts to the passage from morning to afternoon.
The 27-minute solo follows the changing states of the body through a movement language described as sensitive and instinctive. Rather than presenting change as a single turning point, the piece treats it as a gradual process that unfolds over time.
The program brings together different approaches to the body and contemporary dance, creating a dialogue between distinct artistic and cultural perspectives.
“Incendia” is also part of Saison Méditerranée 2026, connecting Benchrifa’s work with a wider program celebrating artistic exchange across the Mediterranean.
