Rabat– IMP’ACT, an artist collective founded by Adil Lfal—a comedian and theatrical improvisation coach—will perform its fully improvised play, “Taulards & Innocents?”, on July 19 at 8 p.m. at Salle Pie X in Rabat’s Agdal.
Like many of the troupe’s other plays, the audience will have full control over the main plot, choosing the crime at the center of the story.
The three actors playing the suspects will then have to improvise everything else. Spectators are invited to play along, listening closely, cross-checking stories, and deciding what they would have done in each suspect’s place.
Whether you’re a true crime fan or a theatre lover, the play invites you to participate not just as a viewer, but as a judge, and maybe even a moral witness.
While improvisation in performance dates back to ancient forms, such as Commedia dell’arte, where actors spontaneously responded to their audiences, the direct and impactful participation of spectators often remained informal.
However, with innovations like Keith Johnstone’s Theatresports, a competitive format emerged where audiences actively voted and influenced the outcome, transforming them from passive observers into integral, shaping forces within the unfolding play.
This shift dramatically amplified audience engagement, revitalizing the theatre’s appeal by inviting direct involvement.
Improvisational theatre remains a growing art form in Morocco, where scripted performances still dominate mainstream stages.
IMP’ACT is among the few collectives in Morocco pushing boundaries by blending audience participation with the plays’ plots and events.
