Washington – Canada joined the global celebrations of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a major opening event highlighting the country’s role as one of the tournament’s three host nations alongside the United States and Mexico.
Alessia Cara popped out with the hit song “Wild Things” after William Prince welcomed the world to Canada with a showcase to display Canada’s indigenous and multicultural identity.
Prince recited the profound words in his speech, “From this land, where the water meets the mountains, where voices have gathered for generations. We are still here.” Recognizing the indigenous communities within Canada.
Other artists were featured including Moroccan Star Nora Fatehi, Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Sanjoy and Vegedream.
Nora Fatehi sang her FIFA World Cup 2026 official song “Siir Siir” on the vibrant red and gold platform alongside the French singer-songwriter Vegedream and the DJ Sanjoy.
With the theme of red, Fatehi came out with a beautiful two-piece outfit while matching her backup dancers.
Fatehi and the fellow performers brought the energy that was needed, for the song itself and for the amazing game that was scheduled afterwards, Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina.
She ended her performance fiercely with fireworks in the back of her stage and along the side of the field.
Shortly after Fatehi finished, Elyanna and Jessie Reyez collaborated on the song “Illuminate,”. enhanced by bursts of fireworks and plumes of red smoke that lit up the stage.
The performance energized the crowd, which closed the second opening ceremony with a resounding cheer.
The event showcased artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, reflecting the wide range of communities represented among fans.
