Marrakech – The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) has welcomed the latest publications of the late Moroccan sociologist Fatema Mernissi, introducing Arabic readers to the first translations of two of her works, “Love in Islamic Countries Through the Mirror of Ancient Texts” and “Woman in the Islamic Unconscious.”

Published by Editions Le Fennec, these books are among several Moroccan contributions to this year’s fair, which also features titles from Slaiki Akhawayn, Dar Al Thaqafa for Publishing and Distribution, and Centre Culturel Arabe–Morocco.

This year’s program includes talks and panels with 80 Arabic-speaking guests from 20 countries, including Morocco, running from November 5 to 16.

In addition, Moroccan authors are represented through publications from other Arabic-language publishing houses, covering fields such as history, anthropology, philosophy, literature, and popular heritage.

Following Morocco’s appearance as Guest of Honor at the 43rd edition, this year’s 44th Sharjah International Book Fair welcomes Greece and its rich cultural heritage as Guest of Honor.

The opening ceremony celebrated Greek mythology, literature, and art, featuring performances, translations of Greek drama and epics into Arabic, and exhibitions exploring centuries of cultural exchange between Arab and Greek civilizations.

The fair, one of the world’s largest literary events, continues to distinguish itself by embracing a wide linguistic and cultural diversity.

Beyond Arabic and major European languages, SIBF also features literature from the Indian subcontinent in native languages, alongside a strong English-language section spanning fine arts, social sciences, history, religion, comics, and culinary arts.
