Fez — Vince Zampella, the American video game executive widely credited with shaping modern first-person shooters through franchises such as “Call of Duty,” has died at the age of 55 following a car crash in Southern California.
According to U.S. media reports, Zampella was killed on Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on the Angeles Crest Highway, a scenic mountain road north of Los Angeles. Authorities said the crash occurred shortly after midday in the San Gabriel Mountains.

California Highway Patrol officials told local broadcaster NBC4 Los Angeles that Zampella was driving a southbound Ferrari when the vehicle veered off the road just after exiting a tunnel. The car struck a concrete barrier and caught fire.
Zampella was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene. A passenger was ejected during the crash and later died at a hospital. Authorities said the identity of the passenger had not yet been publicly released, and the investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
