Casablanca – Today, Rabat’s Royal Theater will open its doors to the public with an official inauguration ceremony overseen by Princess Lalla Hasna.

The project was launched in 2014 and designed by the late Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, whose architectural language is known for its fluid forms and futuristic lines.

Over the years, the structure has taken shape as one of the most ambitious cultural projects in the capital.

Rising along the banks of the Bouregreg Valley, the theatre stands as one of Morocco’s most anticipated cultural landmarks, blending contemporary design with a large-scale performance space intended to host major artistic productions.

The theatre occupies a strategic cultural site between Rabat and Salé. Its presence adds a new architectural landmark to an area already undergoing major urban and cultural transformation.

The building stands out through its contemporary design, characterized by sweeping curves and a monumental scale intended to accommodate large artistic productions.

Beyond its visual identity, the theatre has been developed as a performance space designed to host opera, theatre, music, and major cultural events.

The opening of the Royal Theatre also reflects a broader national push to enhance cultural venues and expand access to performing arts spaces across Morocco.

With its completion, Rabat adds another major institution to its growing cultural landscape.

Ahead of its official opening to the public, the site had already been inaugurated in October 2024 in the presence of Princess Lalla Hasna and Brigitte Macron, as part of an official visit.

As the doors open to the public, the theatre is expected to become a key stage for both national and international productions, contributing to the city’s evolving artistic identity and its place on the cultural map of the region.
