Rabat – What usually wouldn’t catch the attention of an entire city’s mayor became headline-worthy this week after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared to confirm that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce could be tying the knot in New York over the Fourth of July weekend.
During a press conference on June 15, Mamdani was asked about security plans for July 5, a day that will see MetLife Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey host a FIFA match.
“I’m fully confident in the work of the NYPD and our state partners to provide a safe experience for everyone,” he said.
“We’re the biggest city in the country, we’re used to major events, and we’re excited for this one.”
He then added with a smile, “We know it coincides with the Fourth of July, America 250 celebrations, and Taylor Swift’s wedding, all happening at the same time.”
Naturally, the comment quickly sparked speculation online, with many taking it as confirmation that Swift and Kelce’s long-rumored wedding could finally be happening.
But shortly after, the mayor’s office clarified that Mamdani’s remark was based solely on an earlier TMZ report claiming Swift had filed a permit for an event at Madison Square Garden over the holiday weekend, something fans interpreted as possible wedding preparations.
So far, neither Swift nor Kelce has officially confirmed any wedding date or location. Still, both have hinted at marriage in previous interviews.
Last fall, Swift joked on The Graham Norton Show that wedding planning would be “fun,” saying she might invite “everyone she’s ever spoken to.”
Kelce, meanwhile, has previously suggested that a summer ceremony could make sense, and with his NFL training camp set to begin later in July, the window for a summer wedding is quickly narrowing.
