Rabat – Theater lovers in Morocco are set to enjoy three performances from Israeli theater group Jaffa Theater next September in the Moroccan cities of Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The Arab-Hebrew Jaffa Theater, which will be the first Israeli theater group to perform in Morocco, will put on several musical plays, including “Umm Kulthum” by Eden Oliel and Yigal Ezrati, “Farid El Atrash” by Yigal Ezrati, and “Papajina” by Hannah and Azna-Greenwald.

“All the people in the theater are excited for the trip to Morocco,” said Yigal Ezrati, General Manager of Jaffa Theater.

“For us, Arabs and Jews, who work together all year round in Arabic and Hebrew, arriving in Morocco feels [like] a natural continuation of our activity that brings together Arab and Hebrew culture,” added Ezrati.

A delegation of approximately 25 actors, musicians, and staff members from Jaffa Theater will participate in the theater tour across the North African country. Several of them will arrive in Morocco as early as the end of this month.

Launched by Yassin Othman, a Moroccan businessman living in Geneva, the project has received support from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Regional Cooperation, and Ministry of Culture, Israeli news outlet Walla said.

Since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations in December 2020, Morocco and Israel have increased cooperation in various fields, particularly strengthening their cultural ties.

Israel’s Envoy to Morocco David Govrin stressed that Israel is placing culture at the heart of the two countries’ relations, saying that it fosters values of solidarity, tolerance, and peace between Moroccans and Israelis.

Govrin made those statements during a culinary workshop he organized in Rabat last month that sought to convey “a message of bonding and getting together.”
