Rabat — Jay-Z and Rick Rubin are teaming up for “JAŸ-Z in 8”, an eight-part docuseries produced by HBO that now has both a premiere date and a new trailer.
The first two episodes are set to arrive on Friday 18 September, at 8 p.m on HBO Max, and also on its online streaming platform, with Jay-Z opening up about his career, and dissecting his creative process alongside the Def Jam co-founder.
Each episode is to feature tracks from one JAŸ-Z project: “Reasonable Doubt, Vol. 3,” “Life and Times of S. Carter”, “The Dynasty: Roc La Familia,” and “The Blueprint.”
The documentary will also shed spotlights on “The Black Album,” “American Gangster,” “Watch the Throne,” as well as “4:44.”
The two music icons will break down songs ranging from different albums on Jay-Z’s legendary discovery.
Beyond hosting and interviewing, Rick Rubin will also serve as an executive producer alongside JAŸ-Z. What will mark his directorial debut with the documentary.
In the trailer of “Jay-Z in 8,” Jay-Z and Rubin reflect on hip-hop’s cultural impact and worldwide rise. “The reason people love rap is the feeling of that underdog, That’s what made them tune in, what hit them somewhere.” Jay explains in the trailer.
The documentary series arrives amid a packed year for Jay-Z. One in which he made a major comeback at Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic in late May, and at Yankee Stadium, for the anniversary of “Reasonable Doubt” and “The Blueprint.”
Next up are shows in London, Paris, and Los Angeles, where he’ll headline two nights at SoFi Stadium in late October. With upcoming releases to be launched later on.
