Marrakech – July 6. Casablanca. A velodrome. And a brunch.
But not just any brunch — the Nostalgia Brunch — a sensory joyride with all the seasoning of Seville and the glitter of the ‘80s.
Imagine the final scene of your favorite romantic comedy meets a Technicolor Feria, served with sangria and a side of Susana Sanchez.
Now, I’ve been to my fair share of events in the city that never sleeps (and the ones that nap a lot too), but this is new even for me.
Think: retro flair, Spanish air, and a whole lot of flair — all wrapped up in a brunch-chic Sunday escape that promises to end the Nostalgia Lovers Festival not with a sigh, but with a slow-motion spin and a confetti cannon.
So, what exactly is this “Olé Nostalgia”?
Picture it: You’re walking into the Casablanca Velodrome, but instead of bikes and bleachers, you’re met with warm sun, cold cocktails, and a sea of linen, lace, and lipstick red.
The setting? A Seville-style feria with a Casablanca twist. The vibe? Flamenco meets disco, with Tito Puente Jr. turning the heat up and Gipsy Five setting the scene ablaze.
And in the background? The irresistible echo of pop classics from the 80s, the kind of songs that make you close your eyes and say, “Oh god, remember this one?”
It’s the kind of day where sequins are encouraged and fans (both the handheld kind and the screaming ones) are essential.
Let’s talk food. Because of course we must.
A proper brunch isn’t just a meal — it’s a lifestyle choice. And at this one, it’s a curated journey through tortilla, tapas, and tempting desserts that taste like your childhood — if your childhood wore shoulder pads and danced to Bananarama.
Expect colorful summer salads, vintage sweets, and drinks that are as photogenic as they are delicious. Creative cocktails, infused waters, and bites made for sharing (and Instagramming) await.
And don’t worry — our gluten-free, veggie-loving souls are safe here. Casablanca, it turns out, knows how to cater to a crowd.
Oh, and the dress code?
Forget boring. This is your moment to channel your inner retro-Andalusian goddess.
Think: passion red, polka dots, lace, fluo sunnies, and flowers in your hair. It’s flamenco meets fashion week. And darling, everyone’s invited.
A few questions came to mind… Can you brunch in a velodrome? Can you flamenco on platforms? Can nostalgia actually throw a better party than the present?
And the answer to all of them is: apparently, yes.
As Othman Benabdeljelil — the man behind the magic — puts it, “Le Nostalgia Brunch est une expérience sensorielle, musicale et festive pour terminer le festival avec un grand sourire et un éventail à la main.”
Translation: It’s an all-out, fan-waving, heart-thumping celebration that Casablanca has never seen before.
So here’s my advice: Bring your people. Wear the red dress. Say yes to the churros.
And don’t be surprised if you fall in love… with the music, the moment, or maybe even someone across the paella table.
Because sometimes, the best way to say goodbye to a festival is with a toast, a twirl, and a little taste of Spain — right in the heart of Casablanca.
Olé to that.
And just like that, brunch got “caliente”.
