Rabat – Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs announced on Thursday that Eid Al Fitr celebrations will start on Friday, April 21.
Qatar sighted the crescent moon for Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, this evening with experts confirming that Eid Al Fitr is on Friday.
According to Arabian News, Qatar announced an 11-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr.
The holidays will start on April 19 with employees returning to work on April 30.
All ministries, and public institutions are set to benefit from the holiday.
In Qatar, like in other Muslim-majority countries, Eid Al Fitr celebrations start with communal prayers, followed by a short sermon by the imam.
Then, Muslims share breakfast with family members.
After a festive breakfast, Muslims commonly visit their relatives and friends, to share Eid wishes. Some also prefer to take advantage of the Eid Al Fitr holiday to travel.
Muslims are also required to pay “Zakat Al Fitr” or “Zakat Al Eid” days before the feast. “Zakat Al Fitr” is a charity given to Muslims in need.
Religious scholars set the value of “Zakat Al Fitr” annually. In Morocco, religious committees set the value of “Zakat Al Fitr” at MAD 20.
