Fez — The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad will present “Ma vie, mes défis et mes filles” (My Life, My Challenges, and My Daughters) on Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Espace Rivages in Rabat.
The theatrical work is co-written by Nadia Lamarti and director Saïd Ben Ali. It takes the form of an autobiographical solo performance in which Lamarti revisits the intimate journey of a mother facing life’s trials, parental responsibility, and the personal challenges that shape her identity.
A story of motherhood and resilience
“Ma vie, mes défis et mes filles” follows a woman moving through the major stages of her life, standing alone on stage, or almost alone, as she recounts her choices, failures, victories, and sacrifices.
At the essence of the play is the unconditional love she carries for her daughters. Through doubt, joy, and struggle, the performance explores the difficult balance between being a mother and remaining a woman with her own emotional, spiritual, and personal path.
The piece uses inner dialogue, shifts in character, and changes of tone to tell a story that is both personal and widely recognizable. Its focus on family pressure, emotional endurance, and self-definition gives the performance a human register that speaks beyond one biography.
A Moroccan voice from Belgium
Lamarti was born in Brussels in 1981 and is originally from Tangier. She currently lives in Affligem, in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. Passionate about theater from a young age, she joined Troupe Chocolat and took part in several theatrical creations before co-writing this work with Ben Ali.
By hosting the performance, the foundation continues its cultural programming around Moroccan artists living abroad. Its platform e-taqafa also presents the event as part of the foundation’s effort to highlight diasporic artistic expression and maintain cultural links with Moroccans worldwide.
“Ma vie, mes défis et mes filles” places a Moroccan woman’s personal story at the heart of the stage, turning private memory into shared reflection.
