Rabat – Morocco produced 26 fiction feature films in 2025, while cinema box office revenues reached nearly MAD 130 million ($14.3 million), according to the annual report released by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM).
The report shows that Moroccan production companies invested MAD 596.48 million ($65.8 million) in film production during the year.
Meanwhile, the national Film Support Fund allocated MAD 73.5 million ($8.1 million) in grants to support local productions.
A total of 18 feature films, one feature-length documentary, and six short film projects received advance funding before production. An additional four short films were awarded post-production support.
The CCM also backed script development across the industry, providing writing grants to 15 feature film and documentary projects and rewrite support for 13 additional projects.
Documentary filmmaking focused on Hassani culture, history, and heritage also received significant backing.
Eighteen documentary projects obtained pre-production funding, while two received post-production assistance and seven benefited from script rewrite support.
The report notes that Moroccan authorities issued 257 professional cinema cards in 2025 across various film professions, including directing, production, sound, editing, set design, and visual effects.
Cinema infrastructure also saw continued investment. The Film Support Fund allocated MAD 15.9 million ($1.75 million) for the digitization, creation, and modernization of movie theaters. Morocco ended the year with 87 operational cinema screens.
Cinema attendance reached 2.19 million admissions, generating MAD 129.78 million ($14.3 million) in ticket sales.
The report also highlights a busy year for film festivals. Morocco hosted 69 national film festivals in 2025, supported by MAD 32.61 million ($3.6 million) from the Film Support Fund dedicated to cinematic events and festivals.
Internationally, Moroccan cinema recorded 147 participations in film festivals abroad, including 88 official competition selections.
These appearances resulted in 37 awards across various categories, reflecting the growing international presence of Moroccan filmmaking.
