Rabat – Dry lips? Before reaching for another store-bought balm, your kitchen might already have what you need for a simple, nourishing alternative.
Making your own lip balm at home is surprisingly easy, affordable, and a fun little DIY project.
With a few natural ingredients, you can create a balm that helps keep your lips soft and moisturized without a long ingredient list.
Simple ingredients
- 1 tablespoon shea butter
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
- 2-3 drops of vitamin E oil, optional
- A small, clean lip balm container or tin
How to make it
Start by adding the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax to a heatproof bowl.
Place the bowl over a pan of gently simmering water and stir until everything has completely melted.
Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly. If you’re using vitamin E oil, add a few drops and mix well.
Carefully pour the liquid balm into a clean container and let it cool at room temperature until it becomes firm.
Then, simply twist it open and give your lips some homemade TLC.
A few DIY lip balm tips
Keep your balm in a cool, dry place and always use clean hands when applying it from a tin.
If you have sensitive skin, stick to simple ingredients and skip essential oils or fragrances, which can sometimes irritate already-dry lips.
And remember: “natural” doesn’t automatically mean irritation-free. It’s a good idea to patch-test new ingredients first, especially if your skin is sensitive.
