Casablanca – Some of the films that lit up the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival are getting a second life on the big screen, as the Cinémathèque Marocaine brings 13 titles from the festival’s 2025 official selection to Rabat from September 19 through October 1 at Cinéma Le 7ème Art.
The program marks the second consecutive year of a partnership between the Cinémathèque Marocaine, the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation, and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center.
Rather than letting these films disappear once the festival wraps, the collaboration gives audiences another chance to discover films that found their place among the 22nd edition’s diverse selection.
A week of cinema to start
The program opens on September 19 with South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s “Aucun autre choix” (No Other Choice). The following evening brings Autisto, a Moroccan film by Jérôme Cohen-Olivar.
On September 21, audiences can catch Cinq Regards (Five Eyes) by Moroccan filmmaker Karim Debbagh, followed by “Le Gâteau du Président” (The President’s Cake) by Hassan Hadi on September 22.
The first week continues with Vladena Sandu’s “Memory” on September 23 and “Palestine 36” by Anne-Marie Jacir on September 24, closing with Erige Sehiri’s “Promis le ciel” (Promised Sky) on September 25.
More films are on the way
The screenings continue after the first week, bringing “Mira”, “My Father’s Shadow,” “My Father and Qaddafi,” “Un Monde fragile et merveilleux,” “Porte Bagage,” and “Life After Siham” to the 7ème Art through October 1.
The selection moves across different cinematic worlds, from international dramas and comedies to documentaries and Moroccan productions.
Several titles also connect to the Ateliers de l’Atlas, the festival’s development and industry program for emerging filmmakers from Morocco, the Arab world, and Africa
Good news for film enthusiasts
For Rabat’s film lovers, it is a chance to revisit some of the films that made Marrakech a meeting point for different cinematic voices, this time without the festival crowds and red-carpet rush.
So, if you missed a screening in Marrakech last year, you might want to save a seat for yourself this year.
