A lettercard found on The Titanic, days before it sank, has sold for $399.000 at auction

Rabat – For CNN, the letter dates back to the 20th century, April 10th 1912, written by a first-class passenger, Archibald Gracie describing the unlucky steamship : “It is a fine ship but I shall await my journeys end before I pass judgment on her.

This note is considered as the last surviving piece of correspondence from Gracie, and a poignant reminder of the devastating loss of 1,500 life caused by the collide of the Titanic with an iceberg that

ended up by sinking.

It was sold on Saturday to a private collector from the United States. The sale happened through an auction house called Henry Aldridge & Son, located in Wiltshire, England.

The “hammer price” or the final selling price at an auction, was much more higher than the expected price, which was originally estimated at £60,000.

According to CNN, an auctioneer named Andrew Aldridge described the lettercard as an “exceptional museum grade piece.

At the end, the letter was postmarked Queenstown-Ireland, one of two stops the Titanic made before sinking.
