Marrakech – For the first time ever, the embassies of ASEAN member states in Rabat — including Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Viet Nam — are joining forces to host the ASEAN Bazaar and Cultural Festival.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 9, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Souissi, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Organized under the banner of the ASEAN Committee in Rabat, the event celebrates the 58th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and marks a milestone in regional diplomacy: the first-ever cultural collaboration of its kind in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The event is also part of ASEAN’s ongoing efforts to deepen ties through the ASEAN-Morocco Sectoral Dialogue Partnership.

What to expect

Entry is free, and the public is warmly invited to experience what the organizers call “a day of taste, tradition, and togetherness.”

Guests can expect:

  • Live traditional performances from across Southeast Asia
  • Street-food-style stalls offering authentic regional dishes and drinks at wallet-friendly prices
  • Cultural showcases spotlighting heritage crafts, national products, and more

Though parking is limited, organizers strongly encourage attendees to use public transport or carpool.

The event location — 33 Avenue Lalla Meriem in Souissi — will be buzzing with color and activity.

ASEAN, established on August 8, 1967, is a 10-member regional bloc made up of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

The organization was founded to foster political, economic, and cultural cooperation across the Southeast Asian region.

With global interest in ASEAN rising, especially in North Africa, this festival serves not just as a celebration — but as a statement: Southeast Asia has stories to share, and Rabat is listening.
