Rabat – Lawsuits were filed today at the English High Court in Britain against Johnson & Johnson talc products. The legal claims alleged that the products were contaminated by asbestos, causing cancer like mesothelioma.
The case was presented by KP Law on behalf of more than 3000 people. They claim that the baby powder product contains talcum, tremolite, and actinolite, which are linked to causing deadly diseases and cancers. Although the J&J firm is aware of the issue, it never includes any warnings on the packaging.
J&J stated that its baby powder “was compliant with any required regulatory standards, did not contain asbestos, and does not cause cancer.” It denied all of the allegations and said that the product is safe to use.
J&J was highly criticized for its marketing campaign to promote the products, focusing on generating profit and maximising sales rather than prioritizing their customers safety and satisfaction.
Many claimants stated that they are suffering from a disease or cancer, which is potentially caused by asbestos. All the claimants said that they used the J&J powder for some time.
Customers shared their testimonies saying: “It was such a shock. We just hugged and cried. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when the doctor told me I had stage 4 ovarian cancer.
Another customer said, “They knew it was contaminated and still they sold it to new mums and their babies”.
The lawyers claim that the J&J baby powder product case will be the biggest product case in Britain. It is estimated that the lawsuits will cost the J&J firm millions of pounds.
