Marrakech – Loft Art Gallery is set to participate in the 17th edition of Abu Dhabi Art Fair, held at Manarat Al Saadiyat from November 19 to 23.

With an exhibition titled “Modern Continuities: Dialogues from Morocco,” the gallery presents a dynamic collective show bringing together six Moroccan artists across generations, offering a fresh lens on contemporary creativity rooted in cultural heritage.

The exhibition brings into dialogue the visionary works of modernist pioneers like Mohamed Melehi and Malika Agueznay with the bold experimentation of contemporary voices: Khadija El Abyad, Nassim Azarzar, Samy Snoussi, and Amina Agueznay.

Together, the selected artists weave a narrative of continuity and transformation, positioning Moroccan identity as both a memory and a living force in artistic innovation.

Mohamed Melehi, a founding figure of postcolonial modernism in Morocco, remains renowned for his visual language of rhythmic waves and vibrant color fields—an influence still felt among emerging artists today.

Alongside him, Malika Agueznay, the first female modernist in the country, translates the Moroccan landscape and spiritual heritage into abstract compositions rooted in nature and the sea.

Architect and artist Amina Agueznay pushes this lineage further, incorporating organic materials and weaving techniques to reinterpret Amazigh and textile traditions through a sculptural and conceptual lens.

Her rising international profile includes representing Morocco at its first-ever national pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2026, a testament to the increasing global visibility of Moroccan contemporary art.

The younger generation offers new perspectives: Khadija El Abyad transforms traditional craft practices and materials associated with women’s labor into multimedia reflections on identity, care, and resilience.
