Lugano – Marrakech Menara Airport has secured the title of “Best Regional Airport in Africa” at the 2026 Skytrax World Airport Awards, a leading global recognition in the aviation sector.

The award was presented on March 18 in London during the Passenger Terminal EXPO (PTE World), a leading global airport exhibition and conference that brings together thousands of aviation professionals each year.

This marks the first time Marrakech Menara Airport has received the title, placing it among Africa’s leading regional hubs.

The airport was recognized for improvements in efficiency and service quality, with passengers highlighting reduced waiting times, smoother transit, and enhanced assistance throughout their travel experience.

These advancements are part of a broader Airports 2030 strategy led by Morocco’s National Airports Office, in preparation for  the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The initiative focuses on infrastructure upgrades, digitalization of services, and improved passenger flow management.

Further expansion projects are already underway to accommodate rising traffic, with plans to increase capacity and enhance accessibility through upgraded road access and expanded terminal facilities.

The World Airport Awards ceremony took place as part of the three-day event, with more than 80 awards presented to airports worldwide.

Organized by Skytrax, the awards are widely regarded as a global standard for airport excellence, assessing customer service and facilities across more than 550 airports.

Recognitions are based on one of the world’s largest passenger satisfaction surveys, with travelers from over 100 nationalities evaluating their airport experience.

The rankings cover a wide range of criteria, including facilities maintenance, cleanliness, efficiency, service quality, and overall customer experience.

Nationwide aviation enhancements

Marrakech Menara Airport recent recognition comes as Morocco accelerates wider investments in its aviation infrastructure across the country, with major developments planned for Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport.

British architecture firm RSHP was recently selected to design the airport’s new terminal that blends modern efficiency with traditional Moroccan craftsmanship.

The wider project includes new runways, aircraft stands, and supporting infrastructure, strengthening the national aviation network.

The terminal is expected to open by 2029, positioning Casablanca as a key international hub ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
