Casablanca – Potatoes have long been a favorite in many kitchens. It adapts easily to different forms, shapes, and flavors while still delivering comfort in every bite. From fries and chips to salads and beyond, it even takes a new form here as a savory potato roll at the heart of this recipe.

What you’ll need
3-4 potatoes (thinly sliced)
1 onion (finely chopped)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
Ground beef
Fresh parsley (chopped)
Parmesan cheese (grated)
Mozzarella (optional)
Salt and black pepper
Paprika
Thyme
Olive oil or butter
How to make it
- Lightly grease a baking dish. Optionally, sprinkle a thin layer of Parmesan on the base for extra flavor.
- Arrange the thin potato slices in overlapping rows until they fully cover the tray.
- Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Add a drizzle of olive oil.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes until the potatoes are tender but still hold their shape.
- Meanwhile, heat olive oil or butter in a pan. Sauté onion and garlic until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Add the ground beef, season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme, and cook until fully browned. Stir in chopped parsley.
- Remove the potatoes from the oven. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the baked potato layer.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and a little parmesan on top.
- Carefully roll or fold the potato layer into a log (using parchment paper if needed).
- Return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts, and everything is well set.
