Rabat – Morocco’s Ait Ben Haddou has earned its spot among the 20 prettiest villages in the world, securing the 12th spot in a recent ranking by Faraway Furniture.

The ranking featured the world’s most picturesque villages based on their popularity on Instagram.

Located in the country’s Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou presents a blend of history, architecture, and breathtaking landscapes. 

This ancient village is renowned for its captivating earthen clay architecture, which forms a series of interconnected buildings and narrow alleyways that climb up the hillside. 

The village, which is a prime example of Moroccan earthen clay construction techniques, even earned UNESCO World Heritage status due to its exceptional preservation and cultural significance.

The towering mud-brick structures, with their designs and reddish hues, create a captivating visual spectacle that has also attracted the attention of not only tourists from across the world but also filmmakers. 

The village has been featured in numerous films and television shows, including iconic productions like Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia.

While Ait Ben Haddou stands out in the ranking, the list showcases a wide range of equally enchanting villages from around the world.

Topping the list is Italy’s renowned Cinque Terre, a cluster of five vibrant Riviera villages perched on cliffs and overlooking Mediterranean waters. 

Norway’s Reine village secured the second spot, followed by Greece’s Oia and Italy’s Burano in the third and fourth spots respectively.

Meanwhile, France’s Colmar ranks fifth, followed by Austria’s Hallstatt and Italy’s Alberobello.

Beyond their picturesque qualities, these villages have become hotspots for tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences and a break from city life.
