Rabat – Rapper Cardi B has revealed she was the victim of an alleged credit card fraud scheme, claiming that thieves spent over $60,000 (approximately 600,000 MAD) using her missing American Express card.
Speaking candidly during an Instagram Live session, the rapper explained that her card disappeared about two weeks prior.
According to her, the perpetrators wasted no time, making a $40,000 (nearly 400,000 MAD) purchase at Saks Fifth Avenue, followed shortly by another $20,000 (over 200,000 MAD) spent at an Apple Store.
The artist described how her phone instantly alerts her to every transaction, making the unusual activity impossible to ignore.
Initially, she assumed someone on her team could have made the purchases. However, when a second large transaction appeared just 35 minutes later, alarm bells rang.
Before she could even contact her accountant, they had already noticed the suspicious charges and reached out. The card was immediately cancelled, and both retailers were alerted.
But Cardi B did not stop there. She claimed to have obtained clear CCTV footage of four men allegedly using her card in stores and attempting ATM withdrawals.
In her livestream, she warned the suspects directly, stating they would be “going to jail” and would be forced to repay every dollar.
Despite her immense wealth, previously estimated at over $88 million (nearly 880 million MAD), Cardi emphasized that she remains highly vigilant about her finances.
“One dollar can’t be spent out of me,” she said, reinforcing her no-nonsense stance on money.
The case has not yet been officially confirmed, as the BBC has contacted American Express for verification.
This incident comes amid a broader rise in card fraud globally.
According to BBC News, UK Finance has reported a growing increase in fraudulent transactions involving UK-issued debit and credit cards.
The BBC stated that in the first half of 2025, around 220,000 cases of lost or stolen cards were used for unauthorized purchases, resulting in total losses of £52 million (nearly 650 million Moroccan dirhams MAD).
For Cardi B, however, the message is clear: this is personal, and she intends to see justice served.
