Fez — Yesterday, EasyJet inaugurated its first base in Africa at Marrakech-Menara Airport, marking a major expansion in Morocco two decades after entering the market.
The launch follows a strategic partnership signed in November 2025 with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), and positions Marrakech at the center of the carrier’s next phase of regional growth.
The new base includes three Airbus aircraft and represents a total investment of more than €150 million (approximately MAD 1,6 billion).
In a press statement, the airline highlighted that the move cements its position as the second-largest carrier in Marrakech and is expected to create up to 100 direct jobs, alongside thousands of indirect jobs linked to aviation, tourism, and services.
Beyond the investment itself, the permanent year-round base is expected to sharply expand capacity to and from Morocco.
The airline also said that the development will help deliver a record 4 million seats in the first year of operation, while improving Morocco’s links with more European markets and widening travel options for passengers.
New routes & year-round operations
To coincide with the base launch, EasyJet also announced new winter routes connecting Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich to Marrakech. The carrier said more links, including Nantes-Essaouira, as well as Bordeaux and Birmingham to Agadir will go on sale later this spring.
Several existing Marrakech routes, including those to Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, will also become year-round services.
The expansion fits directly into Morocco’s tourism roadmap, where air connectivity has become a central lever for sustaining demand and increasing arrivals.
