Casablanca – Moroccan tech entrepreneur Chirihan Chergui, who is representing Morocco at Miss World 2026, a touch of Moroccan tradition to Vietnam as she appeared in a striking caftan at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long in Hanoi.
Dressed in a yellow Moroccan caftan named “Al Kharib,” Chergui brought the spirit of Moroccan craftsmanship to the heart of the historic Vietnamese site.
The gown featured traditional “sfifa” braidwork and “aqad” buttons, completed with the signature “mdamma” (The Moroccan belt traditionally worn with the caftan).
But the caftan was not the only Moroccan tradition taking center stage.
Chergui made her entrance on a Moroccan “mida,” a ceremonial platform traditionally carried by several men to lift brides during Moroccan weddings.
The moment brought together two elements deeply connected to the cultural heritage of their respective countries: the historic Vietnamese citadel and Morocco’s traditional caftan, both recognized by UNESCO for their cultural significance.
Chergui reflected on the moment in a social media post, explaining that she wanted to highlight the shared values, traditions, and historical connections between Morocco and Vietnam, showing how two distant cultures can come together through their heritage.
“Because culture knows no borders, it brings hearts and peoples closer,” she added.
As the 73rd Miss World pageant, the competition brings together representatives from more than 120 countries, creating a space where different cultures and traditions can meet, connect, and share their heritage with the world.
For Chergui, representing Morocco goes beyond the world of beauty. Her career spans technology and entrepreneurship, with a focus on artificial intelligence, adding another dimension to her role on the international stage.
Her work also carries a strong social side, with her dedication to supporting young people through her role as an ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages Morocco.
