Rabat — Following a countdown on her website that had fueled speculation among fans about her next musical project, Taylor Swift’s big news, at least for the moment, has turned out to be a new single coming out this Thursday.
Swift announced the news on social media, saying she had been “impatiently waiting” to share the release with her fans.
Three limited-edition CD editions of the single were also made available for pre-order for 24 hours. Alongside the standard version, fans will be able to hear acoustic and piano versions of “Patient Zero.”
“Patient Zero” will be Swift’s first release since “I Knew It, I Knew You,” her contribution to the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack, which she began teasing at the end of May ahead of the film’s theatrical release in June.
‘Swifties’ hunt for clues
Swift has not yet revealed what the song is about or whether it forms part of a larger project. However, several details on her website appear to connect the release to her 2025 album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
When customers on her webstore click to find information about any of the three CD editions, the logo for “The Life of a Showgirl” appears beneath the Add to Cart button. The glittery spines of the CDs also mark back to previous Showgirl releases.
The announcement comes amid continued speculation about Swift’s future releases, including the possibility of a re-recorded version of her 2006 debut album as it approaches its 20th anniversary.
However, no further project has been officially announced.
The new song arrives just two days before the MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, where Swift is set to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.
The award celebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice.
