Rabat – Once we mention Morocco, the first thing that pops into most minds is Moroccan cuisine. And this is not only the case for humans — apparently, ChatGPT knows it too. AI seems impressively aware of how unique Moroccan food is.

We asked AI once again about Moroccan food, but this time we focused on street food. ChatGPT’s answers felt suspiciously accurate, almost as if it had lived a past life as a Moroccan foodie.

It started with the famous “bestila,” but insisted on the street version of it. It may carry the same name and magic, but definitely not the same experience.

Usually served as an elegant dish at home or in restaurants, served as a big portion and  elegantly presented, “bestila” takes on a simpler charm in the streets. Street vendors go for plain, simple, and small versions. Sweet, savory, and utterly Moroccan.

Moving directly to “Msemen,” ChatGPT quickly changed the scene – from the salty-sweet mixture in “bestila” to the layered charm of “Msemen.” AI described it as “pan-fried square pancakes” A bold choice of words! Most Moroccans would argue that “pancake” doesn’t quite do it justice, because pancakes and “msemen” are worlds apart.

“Msemen” has its own texture, taste, and vibe. Served hot, usually with honey, butter, or even cheese, it is the best choice for breakfast with “atay b ne3na3” (Moroccan mint tea) or just a snack on the go.

Another must-try street food, according to ChatGPT, is “Maakouda” — and we definitely approve! Golden and crispy, “maakouda” is made from mashed potatoes mixed with spices, usually eaten in sandwiches with optional chili sauce. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it’s that simple street classic that never disappoints.

Then came the biggest surprise among all of AI’s suggestions — “lkbal,” or grilled corn. ChatGPT might have missed the exact Darija word for this street favorite, but the suggestion was definitely on point.

“Lkbal” is roasted over charcoal until smoky and golden, then sprinkled with salt. You can even find it boiled, depending on personal taste. It’s one of those timeless Moroccan street snacks that carry nostalgia in every bite.

These picks were spot-on! We couldn’t agree more with ChatGPT. These street foods deserve a spot on your must-try list when visiting Morocco.
