Casablanca – Morocco is set to be one of the major highlights of the 2026 Mediterranean Season, an expansive French-led cultural program that features over 200 events in the region.

The season will open in Marseille before expanding across several French cities and extending internationally through key events in other Mediterranean countries.

Designed as a space for dialogue and cooperation, the initiative brings together artists, intellectuals, researchers, and civil society actors from across the region.

In particular, the programs create spaces of collaboration between young people and diasporas, as well as partnerships with civil society organizations from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon and beyond, fostering innovation and cultural exchange.

Within this broader framework, Morocco’s presence will unfold through a rich and varied program. A central moment will be the “Morocco & Mediterranean” weekend at the Cité de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris at the end of October.

From musical traditions to visual expression, Moroccan heritage will unfold across multiple artistic forms. The program highlights the dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation, with particular emphasis on women artists and on emblematic repertoires such as Andalusian and Gnawa music.

A photo exhibition dedicated to Gnaoua musicians will further extend this exploration, offering a contemporary perspective on a living heritage that continues to evolve while remaining rooted in history.

These displays of Moroccan culture will compliment other cultural performances, including Lebanese chants, flamenco, and Greek and Apulian folk expressions.

The season also offers a broader intellectual and artistic journey, structured around five thematic threads: speculative utopias, plural identities, contemporary spiritualities, the collective history of migrations, and the shaping of narratives.

Developed in collaboration with Mediterranean cultural figures, the organizers assert that these themes serve as gateways to reflect on current societal challenges, connecting creativity, memory, and civic engagement.

The Mediterranean Season is organized by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with la Délégation interministérielle à la Méditerranée. The program is implemented by the Institut français, bringing together more than 200 events.
