Casablanca – Pasta is one of those dishes that almost everyone loves. It is simple, tasty, and comes in so many versions that it never really gets boring. From Bolognese to béchamel, pink sauce, or even a cold pasta salad, there is always a way to enjoy it.
It is also a lifesaver for students or anyone living away from home. Quick to make, filling, and comforting, it easily becomes a weekly habit.
For many, that usually means simple pasta shapes like penne or spaghetti, since they are fast to cook and easy to prepare after a long day. They become everyday staples because they are practical and reliable.
But if you want to move a bit away from the usual routine, lasagna is a great option, as it takes a little more time, but feels more special and comforting.
Ingredients
- Butter
- Olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
- Chicken breasts (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- Fresh spinach
- Mushrooms, sliced
- Cooking cream
- Béchamel sauce (prepared separately or ready-made)
- Lasagna sheets
- Grated cheese (mozzarella or a mix)
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Heat a pan and add butter with a little oil. Once melted, add chopped onion and garlic and cook until they soften and become slightly golden.
- Next, add the chicken breast pieces. Cook them until they begin to turn white and are lightly seared on the outside.
- Once the chicken is partially cooked, add the fresh spinach. Stir it through the pan and allow it to wilt down completely. After the spinach has reduced, add the sliced mushrooms. Cook everything together until the mushrooms soften and release their moisture.
- Time to pour in the cooking cream and add the béchamel sauce. Stir well so the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and fully combined. Let it simmer briefly so all the flavors come together, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Now, start assembling the lasagna in a baking dish. Begin with a thin layer of béchamel sauce at the bottom to prevent sticking.
- Add a layer of lasagna sheets, then spread a portion of the filling over it. Add a little grated cheese over it.
- Repeat the layers in the same order until you finish all the mixture.
- Finish with a layer of béchamel and top with cheese (don’t be shy about it. Generosity is key here!)
- Place the dish in a preheated oven and bake until the top is bubbling and golden.
Et voilà. Bsaha!
