Fez — The city of Agadir is hosting the launch of Morocco’s first shared residences dedicated to seniors, introducing a new housing model designed to respond to the country’s rapidly evolving demographic landscape. Developed by Amaviva, the concept is built around small, human-scale living units aimed at preserving dignity, autonomy, and social ties.
According to projections by the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Morocco’s population aged 60 and above is expected to exceed 10 million by 2050, compared to around 5 million today. This demographic shift has intensified calls for innovative housing and care solutions adapted to seniors’ needs. Amaviva positions its model as a direct response to that challenge.
A family-style alternative to traditional senior housing
Amaviva’s shared residences are organized into small units accommodating between eight and twelve residents, fostering a family-like environment that prioritizes conviviality, safety, and daily interaction. Each residence is staffed around the clock by trained professionals and offers shared services including meals, wellness activities, animation, assistance, and personalized support.
Rather than isolating seniors, the concept seeks to maintain their independence while embedding care into everyday life. “Amaviva is much more than a place to live; it is a new way of envisioning aging, with dignity, social connection, and autonomy,” said founder Raghiba Yakini.
Beyond housing: an integrated senior ecosystem
The initiative extends beyond residential spaces. Amaviva is also developing an integrated services platform that includes a continuous training center focused on care professions and ethical elder support, as well as a digital coordination platform designed to streamline senior services and improve care continuity.
This ecosystem approach reflects a broader ambition to professionalize and modernize senior care in Morocco, while creating new opportunities in training, employment, and service delivery linked to an aging population.
A pilot in Agadir with national ambitions
The Agadir site serves as Amaviva’s pilot project, with a gradual national rollout planned from 2026. Future expansions are envisioned in major cities including Marrakech, Casablanca, Tangier, and Essaouira, adapting the shared residence model to different urban contexts while maintaining its human-scale philosophy.
As Morocco prepares for a demographic transition that will redefine social and urban priorities, initiatives like Amaviva signal a shift in how aging is understood and supported.
By blending housing, care, and community, the Agadir launch marks an early step toward a more inclusive and forward-looking approach to senior living in the Kingdom.
