Casablanca – Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Mehdi Nassouli joined forces on the Casa Anfa stage for one of Jazzablanca’s most distinctive performances, bringing together musical traditions from different parts of the world.

The concert marked Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s second appearance at Jazzablanca, returning to the festival after their first performance in 2019, this time with a special collaboration alongside Moroccan gnaoua artist Mehdi Nassouli.

Driven by powerful brass arrangements rooted in jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop, and elevated by the hypnotic rhythms of gnaoua, the performance offered an energetic dialogue between Chicago’s brass heritage and Morocco’s ancestral sounds.

The result was a seamless fusion of two musical identities that naturally found common ground on stage.

Every section complemented the other, creating a performance where neither tradition overshadowed the other but instead amplified the other’s strengths.

Mehdi Nassouli’s guembri and vocals remained at the heart of the collaboration, grounding the performance in Moroccan musical heritage while allowing the brass ensemble’s explosive energy to expand its sound.

Together, they transformed Casa Anfa into a celebration of rhythm, improvisation, and cultural exchange.

The Moroccan spirit remained present throughout the set. With the Moroccan flag proudly displayed on stage, the collaboration became not only a musical dialogue between cultures but also a celebration of Morocco’s rich musical heritage before an enthusiastic Jazzablanca audience.

By the end of the performance, the collaboration had become more than a shared stage. It stood as one of Jazzablanca’s strongest reminders that music, regardless of its origins, speaks a universal language.
