Rabat – The Museum Of Music in Paris is hosting “Hassan Hajjaj: My Rock Stars” the musical pantheon of Moroccan photographer, stylist, and visual artist, in an installation that celebrates the diversity of his creativity and cultural influences.
From 22 September to 25 April 2027, about forty vibrant portraits by Hajjaj will be displayed, featuring Billie Eilish, Madonna, Gnawa masters and more.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the group “Acid Arab,” immersing visitors in their electro compositions, and blending traditional sounds from the Arab world, with electronic basslines and global beats.
Born in 1961 in Larache, Morocco. Hassan Hajjaj was raised in London. His work pulls from both his Moroccan roots and London’s diverse energy, and he is best known for vibrant, playful, and colorful portraiture.
For Hajjaj, no subject is off-limits. He photographs everyday people and anonymous figures alongside global icons like Billie Eilish, Madonna, and his friend Rachid Taha.
“My work is not about my movement, it’s about all of us. I’m just another character, another part of the people in my pictures.” Hassan Hajjaj said in an interview with 1-54 Art Fair.
In his photoshoots, every person is styled in outfits created by the artist himself. His style is a mix of traditional Moroccan clothing and streetwear.
The portraits are then set against backdrops built from carefully selected everyday items, like products you’d find in a corner shop.
In his compositions, Hajjaj breaks down stereotypes by weaving Africa’s tradition of reuse and textures together with pop culture.
The exhibition will also spill into the museum’s permanent galleries, where selected works and objects will be woven in to converse with the instruments that are on display year-round.
