Rabat – Going back to work after a long summer break can feel strangely exhausting. Your routine has changed, your sleep schedule is probably questionable, and the idea of answering emails at 9 a.m. feels very different after weeks of slow mornings.
The good news? You do not need to completely overhaul your life to get back on track.
A few small changes can make the transition much easier.
Start resetting your sleep before your first day
If your holiday bedtime has slowly moved from midnight to 2 a.m., do not expect yourself to suddenly fall asleep at 10 PM the night before work.
Start moving your bedtime and wake-up time earlier a few days before you return. Even 30 minutes can help your body adjust without making the first morning back feel like jet lag.
Do not plan your entire week on day one
The temptation is to return with a giant to-do list and immediately try to catch up on everything.
Instead, start with what is actually urgent. Pick three priorities for your first day and leave room for the emails, meetings and unexpected tasks that will inevitably appear.
Your first day back does not need to be your most productive day of the year.
Bring back the morning ritual
One of the easiest ways to make work mornings feel less painful is to give yourself something to look forward to.
It could be your favourite coffee, a playlist for your commute, a good breakfast or simply 20 quiet minutes before opening your laptop.
The goal is to make the morning feel like yours again.
Clean up your workspace
A cluttered desk can make returning to work feel even more overwhelming.
Take a few minutes to clear your desk, organise your files, close unnecessary tabs and clean up your inbox. Starting with a clean space can make the workload feel much more manageable.
Do not say yes to everything immediately
After being away, it is easy to feel like you need to prove that you are back and ready to take on everything.
You do not.
Before adding another meeting, project or deadline to your week, check what is already on your plate. Getting back into work mode should not mean immediately going back into overdrive.
Keep one thing from your summer routine
Maybe you started taking evening walks. Maybe you had breakfast without looking at your phone. Maybe you finally had time to read before bed.
You do not have to abandon every good habit just because work is back.
Keeping one small part of your holiday routine can make the return to everyday life feel less abrupt.
Give yourself a week to adjust
The first few days may feel chaotic. You might be tired, distracted or wondering how you ever managed to answer emails before your holiday.
That is normal.
Instead of expecting yourself to be completely back in the zone on Monday morning, give yourself a few days to rebuild your rhythm.
Because getting back to work is not about switching from holiday mode to productivity mode overnight.
It is about gradually finding your balance again, one coffee, calendar reminder and completed task at a time.
