Rabat – American sportswear giant Nike is teaming up with the legendary manga franchise “One Piece” for a new collection that brings the universe of pirates into the world of sport.

The collaboration features new takes on the Nike Air Max Plus, alongside jerseys, T-shirts, caps, and a vest, with each piece drawing from different elements of the “One Piece” universe.

The standout designs take inspiration from the story’s legendary “Devil Fruits,” the mysterious fruits that give those who eat them special abilities.

Three of them, “Gomu Gomu no Mi,” “Ope Ope no Mi,” and “Mera Mera no Mi,” have been reimagined through the colors and designs of the Air Max Plus, with completely redesigned uppers created exclusively for the collection.

The “One Piece” influence does not stop at the sneakers. Some of the apparel incorporates actual manga panels, while T-shirts draw inspiration from the “Jolly Roger” created by protagonist “Monkey D. Luffy” and from classic Nike advertising.

The collection also includes a vest inspired by one of the consequences of eating a Devil Fruit, which leaves its users “hated by the sea.”

This collaboration feels right at home in Nike’s world. “One Piece” has long found its way into sports culture, making this collection another way to bring that connection into everyday life.

Nike and “One Piece” are ultimately playing with the same ideas that make both worlds so appealing: courage, creativity, ambition, and the freedom to express yourself.

The collection has already made its first stop in Tokyo, where a pop-up ran from September 4-6.

Select pieces will continue to arrive through pop-up and retail experiences around the world ahead of the collection’s global launch on September 25 through SNKRS.

For fans who like a little extra with their sneakers, the collaboration will also feature exclusive “DON!! cards” distributed during select in-person retail events, adding another collectible touch to the launch.
