Rabat – A new piece in golf magazine GolfMontly has hailed Morocco as an emerging “top class”destination for golfers, offering a fun and luxurious experience. GolfMonthly contributor Michael Weston participated in the Fairmont Morocco Golf Cup, which took place on June 11 and 12, and left impressed by Morocco’s offering to golf enthusiasts.
While Weston and his partner did not win the first edition of the cup, which featured 88 participants, the experience in Marrakech’s Fairmont Royal Palm resort clearly left an impression on the international golfer. “Morocco is starting to establish itself as a top-class golf destination,” Weston writes, highlighting the country’s convenient location for European golf enthusiasts looking for a luxurious golf experience.
The Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, an upscale golf resort near Morocco’s famous red city, was described by Weston as “231 hectares of pure paradise,” which offered him a luxurious and fun experience, if not the most challenging course.
Besides lamenting his own performance during the tournament, Weston expressed his amazement with the resort’s remarkable culinary and wellness offerings, from its many large pools, vast feasts from breakfast to dinner, and the distinctly Moroccan flavors on offer.
Weston’s positive experience with one of Morocco’s top golf courses appears to mirror that of many visitors who are increasingly discovering Morocco’s up-scale offering to tourists looking for a blend of sports and luxury during their travel.
Morocco is making significant efforts to welcome golfers from around the world by hosting a variety of cups and tournaments, including this year’s 26th edition of the Lalla Meryem Cup, the Ladies European Tour, and Morocco becoming the first North African country to host the Asian Golf Tour.
Recently, the Scottish Daily Express described Morocco as “one of the world’s top golfing destinations,” while the Global Golf Post’s John Steinbreder said the country has “come of age” in terms of its golf offering since his first visit in 1995.
